So, I’m always on the lookout at ways to optimize my life and increase my productivity. I am well aware of the fact that I have a limited amount of time on this planet. So, when I’m on my deathbed I want to look back without any regrets. In order to do that, the current me needs to take the right steps now so the future me can look back and ponder upon what an interesting journey it has been.
I have some big goals that I want to achieve, and in order to do that I have to work extremely hard right now. So, I’m always looking at strategies and habits to help me get more done. During such time, I stumbled upon a video by a youtuber named Reysu.
So, I watched this at the start of this year, sometime in January. So, I decided to start tracking my time starting in February. So, I decided to use the app called ‘Toggl Track’. I decided to divide my time up in 7 slots: work, personal, social, fitness, other, sleep and classes.
Since, I was still in school, my definition of “work” comprised of studying for classes, homework, applying for jobs and some personal learning.
After looking at the results of February, I was shocked. As you can see below, I only worked for roughly 80 hours, that is roughly 20 hours per week. If I was working a real job, my manager would’ve definitely fired me.
After having a little insight on how I was spending my time, I decided to utilize it more intentional and efficient and that’s when I started learning Japanese. It’s because I was so conscious of my time, it made me much more productive in the March. As you can see below, I worked for roughly 120 hours which is much more than 80. That is roughly 10 more hours each week. That is still up to the time of what corporate life expects you to work. A “real” or “professional” is expected to work upto 40 hours per week, on paper atleast.
Even though I had some what busy May, because of my graduation and some personal commitments, I still managed to maintain about 120 hours of productive time. Just being aware of the fact of how you’re time is being spent is incredibly valuable.
If you any of you guys haven’t tried this out yet, I highly encourage you to try it out for at least a month. It’ll definitely give you a deeper insight of your time. If you wanna start, I would recommend ‘Toggl Track’-it’s not the prettiest UI, but it’s gets the job done. If you have money to spare, I would suggest ‘Timelines’, it’s really sleek and modern but it’ll cost you 40$/year as it’s a subscription based app.
Thank you for reading.
